And the winner is...
|
Quite simply, the big winner at the 2010 CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Awards was New Zealand. The 2010 Awards featured a record number of entrants from around the Asia Pacific region (92), the diversity of which was strongly represented by the multicultural nature of this year’s winners.
Brendon Reid and his team from Automation Associates took out the Best Integrated Home Installation under $150,000 at this year’s awards. And on top of the award-winning efforts, Brendon has been part of the driving force behind building CEDIA’s presence in New Zealand and deserves to be recognised for his efforts.

CEDIA heads across the ditch
|
This year saw the first ever CEDIA Expo based in New Zealand.
The NZ committee’s initial benchmark for success was a 12-booth show with, maybe 50-100 attendees. However NZ Expo chairman Brendon Reid explains that after just one hour of its launch six stands had already sold and by the end of the week all 12 were booked, so the show expanded to 24 booths. “After we sold the first six stands in an hour, I knew we were on to a winner,” Brendon says. “And then when we opened registration to attendees, I thought 100-150 would be a good number.” The final number of pre-registered attendees was 329.
This may not seem like a large number to anyone who has attended the Australian show, let alone the US one. But taking into account the population of NZ, the size of the market, and the fact that the show was organised in just five weeks, the turnout was phenomenal.
CEDIA Asia Pacific executive director Stephen Miller was one attendee who was pleasantly surprised at the success of the show commenting that “Based on the number of people we have seen flow through these doors over the past two days, this show has been an extraordinary success”.
The future of CEDIA looks bright in NZ, with discussions about next year’s show already underway.
